Great Bosch Bake Off
for Groote Schuur Hospital
As the Western Cape’s Covid-19 infection and death rates have climbed, there has been an increasing awareness of the enormous pressure and strain that this has placed on our health care workers. At Rondebosch Boys’ High School, we firmly believe that amidst this crisis we, as a community, need to stick together and look out for each other.
In light of this, the RBHS community put their heads together and brainstormed a way in which we could show our gratitude, appreciation and support to our local nurses, doctors and healthcare practitioners – for the long hours that they are working, the extreme stress under which they are operating, the dangerous environment they are placing themselves and their families in, as well as the love and devotion they are showing to our local community.
The boys and parents of RBHS spent the last weekend of June in the kitchen…baking up a storm. The handmade goods were delivered in a drop and go system to a decontaminated classroom. A group of Grade 8 boys, following strict PPE protocols, packaged and decorated all of the donations. These were then delivered to our local hospital, Groote Schuur, to be distributed to our frontline workers.
The boys of RBHS baked and gave with love and appreciation for our nurses and doctors: the 400 gift packs of home baked goodies were a small gesture to show our enormous gratitude and support. We hope they found our baking tasty!
Thank you to everyone who contributed towards making this project such a huge success, we are simply blown away by the generosity of our RBHS community. A special thank you to Mrs Fraser and the wonderful team of boys and staff who worked so hard behind the scenes packaging the parcels.
