Robben Island Fundraising Crossing – Zack Waters

Zack Waters (RBHS, Gr 10) and his swimming club partner, Savannah Voigt (Gr 11), set out to raise funds for members of the Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club (CSLC) who lost their jobs due to Covid restrictions.

On Monday, 23 August 2021, this young and dynamic swimming duo swam across the treacherous Robben Island of Cape Town, South Africa.  Supporters backed their efforts by contributing towards their CSLC crowdfunding campaign. The safety and support crew left from Oceana Power Boat Club to Robben Island, where Zack and Savannah swam to the island shore before they began the timed event. The swimmers started at 08:23 and swam towards Big Bay Lifesaving Club.  At the start of the swim, the water temperature was 13.1*C, and as they came closer to Big Bay the water temp dropped to 12.7*C.  The team successfully made it to shore in 1:55.30, and even made a final sprint to the finish together.  We are all incredibly proud, inspired, and humbled by their grit and determination.

Please consider supporting their efforts by contributing to this worthy initiative.
