Donations
Ongoing financial support for the Prep and High Schools is necessary to maintain excellence as funding from the state to Rondebosch (and many other schools) is extremely limited. In addition to significant operating costs, mostly paid for by parents through school fees, there is a need for additional funds to support capital improvements and to fund deserving boys who are unable to pay.
Rondebosch is primarily an academic school and the Old Boys’ Union and the school staff are mindful that some boys may need additional tutoring and remedial assistance. Programmes are funded at the Prep and High School to help these boys as required, including extra lessons, diagnostic tests, mentoring and counselling.
Two of the main entities supporting the Rondebosch Boys’ Schools are:
- The Rondebosch Boys’ Schools Education Trust raises funds needed for the long term sustaining of Rondebosch’s educational, cultural and sporting programmes and provision of scholarship to deserving boys. It is the primary vehicle for managing donations and bequests for the support of the schools.
- The Old Boys’ Union provides a network between Old Boys and Rondebosch, promotes camaraderie, supports the Rondebosch Schools and keeps Old Boys informed about Union and school activities. It also raises funds for its own purposes and special projects at the schools.
Money raised, from Old Boys and others, is judiciously used for capital projects and scholarships guided by the wishes of the donors. Donations are income tax deductible in South Africa and can be allocated to a purpose of the donor’s choosing or for general use.
