Parent Guide

The start of a new school year is a time of excitement and change, for both parents and children! At Little Bosch, our dedicated staff are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible, ensuring that each child feels confident and comfortable as they settle into their new learning environment. To support this, we have a staggered intake during the first few days, allowing teachers to spend quality time with each child and help them adjust with ease.

As the first day approaches, here are some helpful tips to prepare your son for this important milestone:

Talk About School in a Positive Way

Frame the experience as an exciting adventure that both parent and child embark on together. Let your child pack his belongings the night before and encourage him to share his excitement with others. Talking about Little Bosch often and even visiting the nearby park can help build familiarity and anticipation.

Help Him Arrive with Purpose

Introduce him to his teacher’s name and consider having him colour a picture or collect something special to show on the first day. Arriving with a sense of purpose will ease any initial nerves and foster engagement.

Prepare and Organize

Ensure all belongings are clearly labelled and that your child recognizes his school bag. If he wishes to bring a comfort toy for the first few days, it should be large enough to provide reassurance but small enough to fit neatly into his bag. Encouraging him to carry his bag in independently will boost his confidence.

Be Present on the First Day

Allow yourself time to explore his learning environment together. See where his locker is, take a moment in the garden, and help him feel at home before saying goodbye.

Prioritize Rest and Nutrition

An early bedtime and a hearty breakfast will set the stage for a successful first day. Keep in mind that January’s warm weather can be tiring, and adjusting to a new routine requires energy. Adequate rest and a balanced diet will help him adapt more smoothly.
