English Alive, the South African Council for English Education (SACEE)’s prestigious English poetry and prose publication, is dedicated to providing a platform for young and upcoming writers to share their experiences through creative writing. It has been published annually for nearly sixty years and many of South Africa’s top writers were first published in English Alive.  These include Robin Malan (editor for over twenty years), Twanji Kalula (editor and ex-Pinelands High School), Shaun Johnson, Nokuthula Masibuko Msimang, Nadia Davids (St Cyprians 1993-4, 1996), Siphokazi Jonas (Queenstown Girls High School, 2002) and Ameera Conrad (Wynberg Girls High School, 2010).
Congratulations to Nenyasha Kasai (Grade 12) whose poem, ‘The Boy and His Two Pillars’, has been selected for inclusion in this year’s anthology. In addition, Nenyasha has been chosen to read his piece at the launch of English Alive 2025 next month.
