Congratulations to three of our Grade 12 students – James Webb, Luca Scott, and Timothy van Zyl-Smit – who have all been awarded the prestigious Springbok Scout award!
The Springbok Scout award is the highest award a Scout can achieve in South Africa. It’s a journey that begins years before, with a young person’s dedication to service, skill development, and leadership. To be considered, a Scout must demonstrate mastery of a wide range of skills, from advanced first aid to navigation. They must complete a major project, such as building a pioneering structure or hosting a three-course banquet, lead a challenging expedition of over 30km, and contribute a minimum of 40 hours of community service. This is all in addition to a demanding interview and a record of excellence throughout their Scouting career.
It’s an award that requires immense perseverance and commitment, and it’s so challenging that many troops go years without a single Springbok Scout. For our school to have not one, but three recipients in the same year is a truly remarkable and rare achievement.
We are incredibly proud of these young men for their hard work, resilience, and embodiment of the Scout Law. Their accomplishment is a testament to their character and a shining example to our entire school community. Well done, gentlemen!
